125 gallon filtration

So I just picked up 2 fluval 405 cannister filters for 50 bucks each. And was wondering with both of these on a 125 cichlids tank if I should still use an under gravel system?

You should be ok with just the pair of 405's.

That is a total of 680GPH, that is plenty. Recommended requirement is a tank turnover of 4 times. 680/125=5.44, so you are above the recommended turnover per hour. Not to mention they are canister filters so there will be plenty of contact with beneficial bacteria. There is no such thing as over kill filtration though. Hope this helped.

But it also depends on op's stock. A 405 can only hold so much media.

agreed... ugf not neccesarry... with that setup... as a matter of fact they are PItA to clean if you find yourself wanting more try an aquaclear110...

Well I ended up getting an eahopps 150 wet dry system for it. With a pump.
