Hello everyone. I just bought a 125 gallon setup and wanted some ideas. I like the peacock bass so I was thinking about building a setup around them. Maybe 2-4 peacock bass and some Red Shoulder Severums(Heros efaciatus). The severum's colors would complement the bass well but I'm not sure if they can live together. What other breed can be with the peacock bass? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Keilberi(or something like that) are the only cichla small enough for a 6' tank. If you get 4 that's about all you'd be able stock in that tank

How about severums and discus? or geos?

Other than the keilberi that was recommended above the other bass species get way too large for a 125. Most get over 2 feet long as males. They are also very predatory and I would think could eat a severum once they get large enough. I would maybe go with a tank list centered around the severums if you are interested in them. You could go with those, some geos, and/or maybe a chocolate cichlid as a fish of bigger size. And then go with some good 'dither' fish like some giant danios, silver dollars, or rainbows. But that is just my two cents. Good luck.

Yes, I do plan to get a 300 gallon in the future, once the peacocks get too big for the 125. For now, I'll probably try to get a few kelberis and several orinos. Thanks for all the replies.

You plan to upgrade within the next yr? That many PBass could be too much in that tank within 12 months if not less.

Also, there is a cichla forum for cichla questions here

Theyll be able to tell you more as to why NOT to move in that direction with a 125g.

Gotta agree with VRWC on this one. That 300 will have to be up much quicker than you think with PB. Friend of mine did the same thing and he had a hell of time selling such a large fish around here.
