Hello everyone I just got a 125 gallon tank 6 foot wide about 3 or 2.5 tall and probably idk 2 feet back. Right now I have a 7 inch spotted gar and 2 jaguar cichlids that are about 2 inches all in different tanks and I'm switching to 1 ..125 gallon .. and 1 ten gallon. I am OK with getting rid of my gar, but I really wanna keep the jags and possible get some other fish, I have petty decent resources at my lfs, as in cichlids frontasia arowana gar catfish all that stuff so what do you think I should put in this 125 , I'd rather do cichlids like jags or Oscars of that sort so how many can I put in there and what kind will be compatible ? I don't plan on the African cichlids though and Id rather not have a catfish, I will be running about 5 hang on backs 3 50 gal aquaclears 1 75 gal and 1 100 gallon. I really appreciate everyone's input thank you

Ok, just so I can be clear on what you want...you want to get rid of the gar (good idea because it will outgrow and eat everything else that you happen to put in there) and keep your two jags, and you are asking us to recommend fish to stock the tank in addition to the jags? Does that pretty much sum it up?

jags can be kind of nasty when they put some size on. for now, you can probably put what you want in there because of how small they are but eventually you're either going to be over stocked or whatever aggressive you put in there will help thin out your stock.

In a 125 I would just do a pair of jags. Once at mature size they will fill up that tank and not much else will be able to survive with them.

Just the pair of jags. Also if you have a tank larger than 75 gallons then I recommend installing a sump instead of hobs.

Yes I agree that the jags will take up the tank when full grown . Another thing I thought about was that I could do like a river theme and have some bass and bluegill what do you guys think about that? And with the sump I agree but I most likely will not be able to get that even though I am sure I will need it I will have to check it out

And decoration ideas? Don't want the whole thing filled with stuff I was thinking a couple live plants and driftwood

Larger cichlids usually tear up live plants...especially if they are breeding. I used to have some awesome Giant Jungle Val and my male Green Terror shredded them. You can try it but dont be surprised if they jack them up.

If you end up deciding to go native, there is an endless supply of live plants and driftwood for free at your local Creek/river.

Also, if you want more stocking options, keep just one jag. As they grow out some and you're able to sex them keep the one you want. Not too much if anything that fits in that tank will survive a jag spawn.

You might be able to do 1-3 sunfish but bass need 220-300 gallon minimum
