Hey there just wandering if anyone has any ideas for stocking options for a 125 . I’m looking preferably for cichlids or fish you don’t usually see in the hobby. So maybe some rear cichlids or oddballs. Thanks for all your help. Appreciate it?

Really depends on what you are interested in.
If I had a free 125, I’d probably build something around an Oscar (or another similarly sized cichlid) or get a school of piranhas.
Chocolates are a good cichlid that isn’t as common.

Ye is there any good tank mate options for a chocolate cichlid and could it go with a vieja

I wouldn’t recommend one with a Vieja. Chocs are more mild mannered and would do better with severums, geos, etc.

K thanks so one vieja one chocolate and could you put rays in a 125 or do they need a larger tank. And also could I put in any smaller cichlids like convicts?thanks for your help

Even the smallest rays need at least a 3 foot wide tank if I’m not mistaken.
As for convicts, it really depends on the individual.
There is a water chemistry difference for chocs and cons, so I would pass on that mix for that reason.
As for a con with the Vieja, that will be up to if the Vieja wants to share the space or not.
Also worth mentioning that viejas are far meaner than chocs, so a mix would not end well for the choc.

I would not mix Viejas and Chocolates. They are from two very different areas with vastly different water peramaters. The Chocolate is from low PH very soft waters. Whereas the Viejas are from high PH hard water.
Keeping fish in the wrong water peramaters leads to diseases such as HITH etc as the fish doesn't have the natural abilities to fight the pathogens, bacteria in said waters.

Where I would start is finding out the water peramaters of the water you will be using to do your water changes. Then get fish that will thrive in that water.
