I am setting up a 125 gallon tank. I would like to house about 3-4 fronts as the main focal point...I was wondering if I could also include the following as tank mates...3-4 clown loaches, 1-2 catfish from the African region, 1 rope fish, 4-5 shell dwelling cichlids and perhaps a small school of Tiger Barbs.

I would not put a rope fisn in there unless you have the tanks completly sealed w/ no openings. They can get out of anything. Tiger barbs can get pretty mean when schooling and mught be to much for the shell dwellers not to mention they require a lot lower ph than African Cichlids. Just my opinion.

i have been able to put clown loaches with everything and they do fine all the time... cause i dont use any buffers with most of my fish

just be careful when adding loaches. if they are not used to high pH you will need to adjust them to higher pH slowly. i lowered my pH to 7.0 and them added them to my tank before i added anyother fish. then i let my pH rise back to 8.3 over a period of a week then added my fronts

i agree with slowely adjustiing the loachs to the ph. The last thing u need is a bunch of ick infested loachs. Also i would do a colony of fronts! They are very active and grow to awesome sizes. Try burundi. Thats what i have and im very happy.:headbang2

4-5 fronts in a 6ft tank is a great idea, I would nix the barbs, and the shellies. as for the loaches your call. Also I don't know if the rope fish realy fits the group, but hey it's your tank. A beter match for the fronts is some A. comps od calvus, they're fun little guys. Also not form the same lake but make great dither fish are C. morrii.

As far as the catfish go, if you stick with something smaler like synodotis petricola you can stick a wack of them in there and it'l be ok. I haven't ever sen them go after other fish, and they provide some entertainment if the others don't.

Sory I forgot to include the reason for nixing the barbs and shellies, the barbs wil be ok at first but can't hold there own against the fronts, neither can the shelies. And you probably won't see the shellies much once the fronts get some size.

Unfortunately, your fish are pretty much all bottom dwellers. The tiger barbs probably aren't a great choice, nor are the shell dwellers (too small). As for the catfish/loaches, which would you rather have? I have a feeling there won't be room for all of them if you know what I mean :(.
