I have an FX5 on my 125, and it works pretty well overall. I have the flow coming from the right side against the glass with one jet pointing up agitating the surface and the other a bit downwards to stir up the bottom. The right side of the tank is cool, but the left seems a bit stagnant at the top, with not much water movement at all. I was thinking of adding a Koralia powerhead to help out with some circulation. Good idea? Never had one of these, so don't know much about them. What model would work well for this size tank? How does it attach to the side of the tank?

I have a fx5 on my 6ft tank and i find the flow from it to be, to put it bluntly, crap. I added a circulation pump and its great, the fish love the flow. The only problem i have is the sand is scoured away at the opposite end as the flow is now quite strong. So make sure you get the correct size for your tank. I use a NeWave 6500 and will probably drop down a model to reduce the flow and cut down the vibrations, the pump is silent but it vibrates like crazy and as i have a large airspace below the hood it resonates quite loudly.

I use 2 Koralia evolution 1400's in the 300 and they work really well. Magnet attaches to the inside of the overflow box and the pump on the other side of the wall, inside the tank. I run both of mine down low pointing back up toward the surface and they are programmed to stay ON during water changes for constant circulation.

very power friendly too, I think about 7w each

I had 2 1050s on my 125 and it was great, I cut back to 1 to eliminate clutter and still good.

powerheads are a good idea for your application .you might even want to add a small sponge filter as a water polisher

Thanks guys. All this info helps. Don't like the look of a sponge filter sitting in the tank, but they do work well from what I've heard. The FX5 seems to work well enough except for the water agitation and flow. I'll add a powerhead one of these days, but still not sure which Koralia would be good for my tank yet. Any suggestions on which specific one?

If your adding one then maybe the evo 1050. The 1400 may be too much flow. A pair of 750's or 1050's would work too to place on both sides, but it depends on how much flow you really want/need
