Hi everyone, soon I'll be getting a 125 gallon tank, would the common dimensions be 18x72x23? I was wondering how much the tank would weigh unfilled. This kind of poses a problem seeing as I'm 16 and not exactly made of muscle and it has to get in my house some how:irked:. also I am also on a 16yr old budget and have a part time job to pay for this. someone who is a metal worker offered to build a custom stand for me from 1'' thick metal (i'm assuming iron) I was wondering it it would be safe ( it would cost only 100$) or should I pay some extra money for a name brand stand?

any input would be appreciated

yes, 125's are generally 72x18x23.

as far as brand, there are some weight differences depending on if you go Perfecto or Aqueon (All-glass)

the Perfecto tank weighs 160 pounds.

the Aqueon tank weighs 177 pounds.

now, the main difference between these two tanks is that the Perfecto (Marineland) is built with only one center brace across the top where as the Aqeon tank has two.

given this, I would go with the Aqueon tank.

the Marineland tank has two giant 3 foot sections of glass top which I don't really like.

plus, the extra brace in the Aqueon tank should help stop glass bowing even more.

my marineland has 2 centre brace. that is...on both the 125g, and 180g.

i think these are the newer marineland/perfecto tanks...made probably a year or two ago.

so maybe 12voltman is talking about the old skoo marineland ;) i seen those at the place i worked at as a youth

hmm perhaps....my 125 had 2 center brace. looked just the same as my 180 cept the opening of the cabinet. the 180 had 2 opening and the 125 had 3. but same black/black. i sold the 125 to a friend for 800 but its pretty much new

i thought marineland perfecto all under united pet group?

I don't know what make of tank it is. I comes with the the lights and glass top for only about 350$ I was wondering about the stand though , do you think it's safe to buy the custom made?
