Hi Everyone,

I have a 125 Gallon SeaClear Acrylic tank.

Mag drive 2400
2 Over Flows

Filter Stack:

On the top: Micro Filer Pad
One down: Carbon Pad
Two down: Amonia Pad

Second Stack:
Under all of the pads: Bio Balls

I also have two Bio Chem Zorb - carbon/resin mixture in the same overflow as the Mag Drive pump. Link Below. I think it is the best carbon i have ever used. Last for a long amount of time and keeps the tank super clean.

Fish:

1 - 12 inch Oscar
1 - 14 inch redtail

I do a 25% water change a week. Thinking about doing more maybe go to 45% - 55% change a week.

Any suggestions? Does this sound like overkill?

only issue i see with increasing your %, is that your RTC is sensitive to tap water and water changes. yet they do get messy and need filtration and clean water. I have a 125 glass with overflows and similar wet/dry setup. I think 25 % is fine. and if you still want more 2 25% changes a week is better than one big 50%.

what r u feeding your RTC. i'm thinkin about getting some frozen whole smelt (good nutrition i've heard

I think you have a nice set up. And it is not overkill.

With that kind of filtration, 25% a week of water change will be OK for the current sizes of your fish. But as your RTC grows, doing bi-weekly water changes will be more desirable.

I mostly feed my RTC frozen shrimp and Hikari cat fish food.

As far as water changes thank you for your suggestions, i am going to keep it to 25% and do a bi weekly if needed.

Also I have a sink in the other room which I walk back in forth to as i fill a 5 gallon bucket.

Was thinking about running a hose from the tank to the sink to do faster water changes. Does anyone do anything similar and if so how do you have it setup?

I will post some pictures soon. We got a lot of rain/water in NE the last two weeks and my cellar which is where i keep the tank got flooded. The room looks like crap right now, as soon as i clean everything up i will post some pictures. Almost had myself i giant fish tank down stairs, probably would have been pretty cool...

i use to be in an apartment and the kitchen is just a few feet away from my tank. i used python to drain and refill water from the faucet. Just a word of caution... titrate your medication as you put new water in.:) i never had any loss on fish doing this method even to date i use my garden hose to put new water on my tank full of dats but i do a drip type on it to avoid shock on my dats. But on my goldfish.... they don't care... i just put the water at full blast and to top it all they even spawned on me and my corydoras also did. :naughty: this is no BS... i did some reading and it did clearly says.. corydoras spawn when it is rainy season... a sudden decrease in temp makes them spawn. :)

What kind of chemicals does everyone add when doing water changes? I add PH 7.0, it is suppose to reduce the clorine in the water and bring the PH to 7.0.
