I have a breeding pair of jags in the 125 thats it. could i keep anything else in there with them or will they rip them apart. The jags are around 5 in right now and hide all the time which makes the tank look empty,i mean really empty so much so that friends of mine say its a poland spring bottle with nothing in it:irked: .im thinking of just keeping the male. What can i keep with him.

You could probubly add another pair or two. They would establish territory of their own in the tank and might well leave each other alone.

This is one of the hazards of breeding. A 125 looks really big but breeding pairs take up a lot of space.

Does anyone have a single male jag in a 125 with other cichlids im thinking one of each convict, oscar, texas and some sort of catfish and maybe 5 silver dollars to break up any aggression. what do you think?

my breeding pair of Jags would NOT have tank mates in with them, not even plecs would last long in there but mine are a lot bigger than yours and it was only the female that was pyscho (sp?) aggressive

i have a 150 us gallon tank with two 9/10 inch oscars/1 jack dempsey5 inch/1 severum 6 inch/1gibbicep 26inch/1 hoplo catfish 5inch/1serja 6 inch/1 male jag 8 inch....its temp until end of year grown them up together and until now no aggro....jags now defending his turf....at present its nothing just visual threats...hope thats all itll be....keep you informed if you like

I wouldn't put anything in a 125 with a pair of jags. They can be crazy aggressive when spawning, and I thought a 125 was considered minimum for a pair anyway?

my 14" pair is kept with a 13" oscar in my 125, i really wouldn't reccomend adding anything to your tank though, they have come mighty close to killing poor oski on multipe occasions when they just started breeding, but the pairs mellow out when they don't have fry currently swimming around in the tank with them. the last fish i tried to add to that tank was a 11" umbee, and that guy was murdered in 1 day, if i was watching the tank more and not out at work i would have moved him but when i came home it was to late.:(

If you pull the female and just have one Jag, you can possibly do other large cichlids.

The male Jag alone would fare well with an oscar, texas, convict, pleco, a cat. I dunno about the group of SD's but I think it would be a nice addition.
