I just bought a 125 gallon tank and I noticed the plastic trim on top and bottom of the tank is cracked in the center of the tank. The seals all look good. The stand also had it's center brace removed. The previous owner said he cut it out so he could fit his 55 gal in the stand as his sump. He said it was plenty surdy without it and he never had any troubles. He provided me a stack of photos of it running to prove it.

Here is my thing, with the plastic breaking, I fear a catastrophe it the center bracing was to suddenly break with it filled. What would you do? Am I just worrying over nothing?

order new braces off the interwebs... or make your own from acrylic its not that hard and you can get some cool colors!

It is there for a reason and IMO you go with your gut.. A few bucks to get peace of mind is completely worth it. Why risk it? People who reply on this topic may only guessing since no one knows the glass thickness, tank manufacturer etc.. There are a lot of things to factor in when saying something is or isn't safe.
