Okay, I finally got a chance to do a leak check on my 125g last night and although it isnt as pretty as it wouldve been if it were new, or I had done it before, Its good enough for me, and most importantly, it didnt leak! Thanks to Laticauda for your advice and help!!
When my 125 sprung the leak I had to rush out and buy a new 75g and stand from Petsmart to save my Africans, which they have been in for the past few weeks now, all still doing fine. I had started to consider whether to leave them in the 75g, and go with something different in the 125g. After much debate, late nights drinking way too many beers, staring at the tanks thinking, I decided that although the 16 Africans I have in the 75g now are all doing well, they seemed to come out more and were happier in the 125g. I also figured, thats where they started, thats where they should end up. Only thing Im waiting for now is for a friend thats a contractor to look at my flooring and tell me if I need to brace the floor underneath or not. We live in a single story ranch style home with a full basement underneath. Luckily the basement part under the fish room is unfinished, so if bracing is needed, it wont be that bad. I used to have the 125g against a center wall in the middle of the room which put the tank going against the floor joists which was enough to support the weight without any concerns. Now after moving the empty tank around while working on it I really like it at the end of the room rather against the end wall. Only problem is, that would put it running WITH the floor joists rather than against them. Im thinking this would still be okay, but I figure it couldnt hurt to check first rather than me and my buddies standing around staring at the ceiling down stairs with beers in our hands sayin, Yeah, it should hold
Now its time to make the decision on what to put in the 75g. Ive decided that the important things to me on what I choose will primarily be size, since Im not going to be loading it up with as many as Ill eventually have in the 125g. Also, personality will be important. I dont want a fish that I have to drop food in the tank to get it to move. And lastly, I want a fish that isnt one that always hides when the lights are on. I know most will prefer moon lighting and such to be more active, but since Im not ready to start shelling out as much on lighting as I did on the entire tank setup just yet, the standard lights that came with it will be what I use for now.
Im thinking of going with either SA or CA Cichlids in the 75g. I considered some others, but so far everything Ive seen pictures of, its looking like as far as coloring and for movement in the tank, Im thinking thats going to be my best bet.
Any other suggestions? Remember that Im still a newbie, so any pics you can provide of the fish would also help. Thx!
