I have a 100 gallon(72x18x19) that has been running great for around 6 months now. The issues started after my 75 started leaking forcing me to move my 9in Synspilum into the 125. It already had a 5in severum, 8in oscar, 4in blue acara, and a lima shovelnose. After only 2 days the acara and severum are dead(along with the oscar being pretty badly beaten), and the Synspilum is going to the lfs tomorrow to be rehomed:angryfire. I am now wondering what to do with the 125. Will the oscar be okay in a 40 breeder till I can grow out some more fish in the 125? Any stocking ideas? Was thinking

1 oscar
1 Jack Dempsey or Green terror
1 electric blue acara
1 Curare Severum
1 lima shovelnose
1 sun catfish
4 filament barbs

Thinking about another oddball maybe a Bichir or Pink tail Chalceus? Thanks for any help!!

Green Terrors and JD's grow pretty slowly compared to the oscar. It might be a year or more before you can move either one to the larger tank, depending on the size you start out with. 1 year or more for the oscar in the 40g will be hard on the oscar and labor intensive with water changes. Overall, your proposed stocking puts the 100g tank as overstocked bioload-wise when all are full grown. Just the oscar and lima is way more manageable in the long term in a 100g.

The filament barbs will be snacks for the oscar, getting full grown ones won't guarantee that the oscar won't try eat them when it reaches 12".

Thanks for the help I was thinking of resealing my 75 and keeping the Oscar in that permanently. Would the list work minus the Oscar and sun cat? Also running a fluval fx4 and marineland Hob filter/doing weekly water changes.

For 100g,

1 Green terror
1 Curare Severum
8+ filament barbs/8+ Colombian tetras

1 Curare Severum
1 EBA
8+ Colombian tetras (the more the merrier)

Requires more water changes
1 Green terror
1 Curare Severum
1 lima shovelnose
1 sun catfish

My preference is GT since I've found it more personable than a JD. I forgot to mention that the barbs may be eaten by either of the catfish, so you have to decide which once you want, barbs or catfish. There's no guarantee that the EBA will work with the GT/JD. They tend to be smaller and could end up on the losing end due to territoriality
