It really depends on what types and the other fish in there. If it is a bichir only tank than you can fit any bichir you want in there. i would say about 7 or so. but that would be of the lower jaw family (except the ornates and weeksi's) if you are interested in both i would say 5 total. 3 being endlicheri, ornates, etc... then 2 sens delhezis or something like that.

Yeah well right now I have two sens and a common pleco which I got really lucky with because he never bugs my sens unless I drop carmivore sinking pellets in. And then I have a rocket gar. Yeah I was looking to get a ornate a rope fish and I really want an arowana.

Your Common Pleco, may be "bothering your senegalus in the middle of the night.
If it hasn't yet, it's only a matter of time. It will happen take my (and many many others) word for it.
Adding more Bichirs will only make it worse.
