Hey everyone!
Im getting a 125 this week and was looking for some stocking suggestions. I currently have a Vieja Guttalatum thats definately going in as well as a venezuelan pike that may or may not. I like big CA cichlids, and was thinking about N. tetracanthus or a red tiger mota because we have nice specimens of these fish at the LFS I work at. I want to have 4-5 fish in there and dont want anything too aggressive because, while the guttalatum could definately hold its own, its nothing like a red devil when it comes to being nasty. I was also thinking about a female festae but am kind of worried it might be a little too nasty. I basically want suggestions of some large, colorful cichlids i might have overlooked.

Heres a pic of the Vieja in growout

iPhone pics dont do him justice, hes got lots of blue

and heres his 20H growout tank

Cant wait to get him out of there soon

If you are looking for similar temperment and great color why not stay within the parathreaps/vieja genus? lots of great examples there.

Most paratheraps/vieja don't play nice with their own kind.

The cuban or female rtm should work. A nice Carpintis might also work.

Paratheraps/vieja can get extremely agro towards any conspecifics like Nemesis said. Usually one will harass another until it dies.
Jack Dempsey's are great. Cuban or a carpintis would probably do well. 5 big mean territorial fish may have a hard time getting along in a 125gal.
If it were me, Id keep guttulatus and pike and get 1 more big fish that can hold its own. Then something smaller like a group of clown loaches or something of the likes.

Yeah i was thinking 5 might be a little ambitious, i might go with 3 or 4 large guys and some smaller dudes. Im getting a gorgeous 6" sajica in a few days from a friend, and i might get a nice cutteri from my job as well. BTW the tank will have an FX5 on it and i do waterchanges weekly so bioload shouldnt be too much of an issue
