I'm going to pick up a 125 gallon tank tomorrow and have no idea what to put in it. The tank comes with a Marineland c-530 but once I get it I'm hoping that there's enough room in the stand that I can build a sump with a 55 gallon tank I have. Some of my favorite fish are

EBJD
Jack Dempsey
Red Shoulder Severum
Red Hump Geo
Red Head Tapajo

I have no idea how big some of these guys get or if they are even close to suitable for my tank or each other but that's kind of an idea. If it's doable I think it would be cool to have a pair of the Jack Dempsey (maybe one normal one electric blue) and stock the tank around them. But I'm afraid if they pair up and decide to breed that it would turn the tank into chaos. I just want a tank with colorful fish and interesting behavior.

I've got the rotkeil sevs & red head geos in mine. Highly recommend that combo & maybe add some cories & plecos down the line

If you search biotopes you will see some good examples.my advice would be to stick to one type.SA or CA.severums and geos would work, with many options to add/substitute.chocolates,keyholes and many geos to choose from. For CA firemouth,JD,convicts, viejas so many more.

Try red head geos
Rotkeils and a single ebjd as a center piece fish

That would be awesome, I just don't know how many geos and severum to get. I read that the geos prefer to be in groups of at least five but I'm not sure how much bioload that is. I've never had a tank big enough to do a community of cichlids before. I don't want to over stock it.
