Hey all, been researching around, looking to upgrade my 75 to a 125.

Right now, here's what I want to put into it, please let me know if it would be a practacle stock list (with adequate or overfiltration).

4 archers
1 dragon goby
3 brackish snowflake eels (G. Tile)
1 stonefish

This would be with a filter suitable to a 140-150gal tank. I'd either be running 2 Emperor 400's (each rated 80gals), 1 ehiem canister (rated for 150) or a wet/dry filter - but thats more money.

Obviously, for such messy fish, I'd be doing weekly water changes of about 10-15%.

Since archers get about a foot at adult, and would require the most room - I might make the stock list:

2 archers
2 monos
1 dragon goby
3 brackish snowflake eels (G. Tile)
1 stonefish

I would splurge and jump to a 150-180, but honestly, in my small apartment, I dunno if it would a) handle the weight over time and b) fit.

What do you all think. For my plan a stock list, I don't see a huge problem with it besides adequate filtration needs. Any ideas?

I imagine the monos like a bigger group, but I don't know if that's a good idea in a 125. Other than that, I like your list and wish you luck.

Id go for the 2nd stock option but keep a min of 3 monos together, as they have a well defined pecking order so if you go for 2 one will most likely get picked on by the other. As for your filtration Id add 2 canisters, and the 2 Emp 400s. If cost of your filter system is a factor, have you tried Rena canisters? IMO they have eheim quality but you could get 2 of the XP3s for about the price of a mid sized Eheim. I run 2 XP3s, a Mag 350, and 2 Emp 400s on my heavily stocked 150...and it could be more crystal clear :)

If the 4 archers are possible, thats what I'd shoot for, as I'm not familiar with monos - while I like them, I favor archers a lot.

Cost definately is a factor :) I'll check them out.

IMO, you could do 4 archers. Ive personally never really seen an archer get past 9"...and if they did it would take quite some time. Your stock would be a little tighter but your stated your willing to do the maintenance so I say go for it if thats what you want :)

Renas are very good filters...and very easy to use. They are practically silent a very slight humm is all youll get from a 350GPH canister to me thats pretty good. I havent heard great things about the new XP4 model but then again it just came out so I suppose it takes awhile for any company to get a new product perfected. The XP3s however are great. My LFS is a big pusher of the ViaAqua canisters which are even cheaper than the Renas but Ive never used one of those so I cant comment.

Do scats, monos, cat sharks, archers, dragon gobies. Forget the freshwater lionfish.

See, mainly I'm working with what I already have.

For some reason I never warmed up to monos or scats, even though they are really nice looking.
