A few years back, I had a 75gallon that I kept a GT and carpintis escondido, with a few small species plecos. Absolutely loved the attitudes of the GT and the carpinitis, not to mention the colors. I'm still in the process of getting the stand built, but have a lot of materials for the aquascape of the tank. It'll have a healthy amount of smooth river rock + driftwood. Would a 125 with ample cover be enough for a carpintis pair + a GT? There will be some plecos as well as those are some of the wifes favorite fish. Any and all stocking ideas welcome.

Possibly but it's altogether possible the carpintis will claim the whole 125 for themselves and make life horrible for the GT

True. It's possible it'll work but no guarantee and you may have to remove the gt. That being said, Im growing out 6 carpintis and 6 cutteri in a 135. have to wait and see if a pair of each could work. I also have tons of rock and wood.......hopeful, but Im ready to move someone if needed

It all really depends on the carpintis if they pair, which is a good chance with a male and female. Targets( sds, danios, rainbows) and plecos seem to go largely unaffected beside the occasional chase. Plecos will eat the eggs though if they spawn......or die trying.

Now, if you don't put a pair in the 125 and grow a few things out together, you could possibly house 2 or 3 cichlids. Especially if you go all male.

I'm sorry I just meant dropping the carpintis down to 1 fish, instead of a pair. As much as I'd love a pair of them I don't want them to take over the tank :D I kept danios in the 75g with the carpintis (before i got the GT) and each night we'd hear knocking and splashing and wake up to 2-3 less danio heh.

If you grow out a small group of cichlids and dithers, Id think you could do quite well. Just avoid the monsters(Dovii,Umbee,Haits) in a tank that size and you may be surprised buy the results. Here's the 135 housing a Freddy, Persei, convict 10 rose lines and about 10 small loricariids. Just a temp setup for grow out, but it was quite peaceful....

The Persei looks phenomenal. I may have to try to incorporate one of those in with plans to build a much larger tank in a year :)

Thanks. He's a beast now living in the 210. Right around 16"

It's possible, but more possible is the carpintis taking over. Now your tbar carpintis idea is good or a carpintis with 2 other similar size temperment cichlids. Carpintis pair & 6 big SD's would be nice imo.

Pearsei are on my wishlist in the future as well.
