I have a new 125g that currently has 2 little oscars, 2 little severums and a pleco in it. The oscars and severums are 3-4", and the pleco about 8"
What other tankmates would be suitable? I like bichirs, what species would be ok in this tank long term? Would a senegal bichir get eaten eventually?
Would love an arowana:drool: but I dont think my tank is big enough?

Arowanas get too big. Bichirs would be great though; there are tons of different species and all but maybe the largest ones would be fine. As long as the size difference between them and the O's is small enough, it will be fine. At adult size, they will be too big to get eaten.

Ornate bichirs are the most attractive (I think) and they get fairly large. Any of the other smaller species would be fine too. Delhezi, Palmas, etc. I'm not sure about the big ones though.

Thanks for that I'm gonna get an ornate or a delhezi
Will a bichir keep up with the oscar as they grow?

the ornate would be a great choice, doubt the oscar will even try to eat it unless it is tiny. Other possible tankmates could be something like a four line pim

yes, 4-line pimelodus (P. blochii?)....very underappreciated fish, and goes good with large SA cichlids

youlll be allright putting smaller fish with the oscars hile they are small. They get used to there mates. However later on you wont be able to introduce a smallish fish..

I found that out! Added a small severum to the severum family and my 2 oscars ripped it to pieces.. not good.

We live and learn!

Bichers and plecos can be a bad mix. Plecos are known to suck the slime coat of slow moving fish such as bichers. You wiil have to keep an eye for the bicher.

the size difference and being the newer fish probably caused this. I'd try to acclimate the fish to the new tank while keeping it apart from the established fish using a divider
