If anyone else on here watches river wonders on animal planet you might have seen the piranha episode? But anyways it got me wanting some p's. So I was thinking some rbps how many can fit in here? And can they be mixed with anything... Because I'm love pbass and that's what this tank has in it right now as a growout. Could these two work together at all? Or would the rbps destroy the pbass? Or LOL I'm a newbie to piranhas so give me everything nessesecary.

you can get tons of the basic info by searching through these forums or checking out opefe.com...

as far as your tank set up, a 125 would be a great tank for a group of natts, 6 would be a good number so they have plenty of space when they get bigger, but you could start with a dozen or so and see how things work for you.

p bass and piranhas don't really mix, depending on the size, the p bass could eat the natts or the natts could eat the p bass

did you mean river monsters? i've never heard of a show call river wonders...but I haven't been watching much TV lately....
anyway, for 125g you can keep a decent number of rbps, you can start off with a few more, say 8-12 and as they get big some might get killed or you can sell some later on if they get too big. you can have about 6-7 in there as full grown but as long as your filtration can keep up I don't see why not to over stock a little.
as for what can go together with pgyo. nattereri, you can mix them with pygo. caribe or pygo piraya. basically any pygo will be ok. don't keep them with your pbass. if they are too small, your pbass will eat them. if the piranhas are big enough your pbass will end up dinner.

edit: Joe beat me to it again, lol

LOL yes sorry typo. But alright thanks I will start with 12 and see what happens from there. But I was more wondering if there's any other type of fish that can mix them with. But if not then I will only go with p's. And what are you guys favorites? I was just thinking rbps because I can get them local and cheap. But if I can mix them what would you go with?

And LOL sorry I'm not really familiar with all the species of piranhas, but what are natts? I'm guessing nattereris? But idk the differences between them all. What would be a good species to start with?

But after looking looking at the I.D. Sticky are natts just rbps?

natts are rbps... they can't be mixed with any other types of fish except other pygos (cariba, piraya, and natt), and even then you aren't guaranteed success. some people try to mix other fish in with them, and you are more than welcome to try, but i wouldn't advise it. if this is your first time with piranhas, i would stick with natts because they are cheap and easily available.

Alright thanks that's what I needed to know. Later down the road if I want to add caribas or piyara is that possible?

personally, i think a standard 125 is too small to try a mixed group of pygos that involves pirayas, but its totally up to you. cariba would be a great choice as long as you allow more room for them since they do get larger than natts... you could learn the ropes with some small natts for now and then pick up some small caribas during cariba season next year.

Alright thanks joe.

Here's a new spin on everything, a friend of mine is getting s. Maculatus really cheap and he asked me if I wanted one/couple. What goes into these fish, can they shoal? And could a 125g work for them? Couldn't find any info on them.

they can be kept in groups, but i definitely wouldn't recommend it for your first piranha tank. it still isn't a widespread practice in the hobby yet, but it is becoming more common as more captive spawnings are occurring.
