Picked up a 125g few weeks ago and am looking at making it a Clown Loach only tank. Would like to do a sand substrate and have decent current.

What would you use for the sandy substrate? ( I live in midwest and only have Menards, no home depot...) if pool filter, what brand/style be best?

What power heads would you suggest and what placements in the tank would you do?

I like these powerheads Hydor Koralia

The pool filter sand is about the same everywhere.... they will have different packaging due to most sand is packaged regionally... just clean it and pick up a bag that has the color sand your happy with. Mine is a mix of tan and white sand and gives a very light cream color in the tank.

You will have to experiment with the placement of the powerheads once you get everything set up. It will all depend on your decorations and your flow from your filters.

I would not think you will need much in powerheads if you get good filters.

Current filters that would run it is a Rena Xp3 and a Fluval 205. Also have some marineland 350s that I could toss on if I felt like...

More thinking of having a nice strong current for the loaches to swim against.

Was actually thinking of doing a manifold type setup for the bottom of the tank. I think there is a diagram of one on loaches.com

I have an aqua clear 30 and 70 in my 55 gal. placed at opposite ends. I don't recommend the aquaclears they become noisy after a couple months and the flow seems to be diminished. Also my aquaclear 70 sucked marred 2 loaches to death before i figured out you need a quick filter attatchment.

Good luck and have fun with it!!!
