I'm currently on a trip to New Jersey and I've run across a few fish that I can't obtain easily in Tennessee (dats, various viejas, lower jaw bichirs, cubans, lysoni, etc.) I was thinking of grabbing something while I can but wondered how much, if any, room you guys/gals thought I had.

Tank 125 gallon:
2 bichirs around 9"
1 jaguar 9.5"
1 royal plec 4"
1 johanna pike 7"
2 texas cichlids 3"

Any room at all?

Id definitely say there is no more room for anything and am surprised youre having success with a 9" jag and 3" fish in a 125, not to mention bichirs with a jag. Jags Ive had looked at bichirs as big worms and didnt last seconds before having to be pulled from the jags mouth.

it all depends on your individual fish man, how aggressive is your jag? some are nasty but ive seen some pretty mellow ones. If hes fine with 3" fish, you might have success putting some more in there. Ive got an 8" chancho with a bunch of others in a 125 and its working out fine. Where in NJ are you? I work at a store called absolutely fish in northern NJ and weve got some really nice cichlids right now. Vieja zonatus, hartwegi, argentea, melanurus, fenestratus (normal and piebald), trimacs, P. loisellei, H. bocourti, and wild caught GT's to name a few plus a bunch more.

Regardless of the attitude of his fish, he is plenty stocked in a 125 unless youre advocating an overstocked tank like some asians keep, and if so, I hope you dont give out that kind of advice to customers you deal with.

I figured I was maxing out. The bichirs have been with the jaguar for a lil over a year with only one problem i've witnessed. The big sen bit the jag in the face fighting over a silverside a while back and was drug around the tank, hanging from the jags bottom lip.

The jaguar overall is pretty chill. He breaks up fights and only has problems when the texas' spawn but even then the tank is usually pretty peaceful after he and my pike eat all the eggs. . I'm in Marlton, NJ at the moment. LFSs seem sporadic around here. Stocking more oddballs than I'm used to but have small SA/CA sections.

No need for the hate man, there are more than one way to keep fish. This is a site to give your opinion, not to state it as fact and bash anyone who disagrees. Ive personally seen tanks with a heavier load than he has work out fine. It all depends on the personality of your individual fish and the amount of maintenance the fishkeeper is willing to do.
