I currently have a 125g with 3 Giant Danios (full grown), 4 Juvie Jurupari (3"), and 1 Jack Dempsey (5-6"). The tank was cycled and the fish were bought around January, and I've seen little aggression from the JD. The Jurupari's can get nasty towards each other, but the JD mostly minds his own business.
How long will this stocking workout? What are some other options available stocking wise? I'd really like a bottom dweller, but I'm not sure what to go with. The substrate is pool filter sand, with pockets of flourite underneath. (Growing out some swords and crypts for now, I don't expect them to survive the jurupari + JD's destructiveness). I'm worried that my Jurupari aren't growing fast enough to keep up with the JD, as they've grown about an inch each as opposed to him growing at least 2-3". If I do need to replace the Jurupari, what fish should I look into? Is breeding JD's worth it? Are there any schoolers that would work with the JD as an adult?
Also, if anyone has suggestions for how to improve my filtration it would be greatly appreciated. I currently have a Marineland C-360, 2 Hydor V sponge filters (rated for 125g), and do about 40% water changes weekly.
All help is greatly appreciated, thank you!
