125g tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
most snakes would be okay in there (except for the really large ones like big pythons, anacondas, etc...) and ALL spiders would have more than enough or even too much room and you would never see them. Lizards like water dragons and basilisks would go fine in a 125 anything bigger than that though would outgrow the tank. Have you thought about turtles? here is my 135 mata tank:

you definitely need a really good filter but my tank does not smell one bit. I have two wet-dry filters hooked up to it and weekly or every other week water changes at around 10% each keep it nice and smell free.

if your going wth fish i would get 3 parrot cichlids some gold gouramis some opaline gouramis a few angelfish and about 10 swordtails and i would have it heavely planted with fake plants with some bogwood i curently own 1 but she is exeptionaly territorial and about 11-12" she attacks any big fish bigger than here but tends to get on with smaller fish (she was a rescue)

if your going to get a lizard i would go with a female black and white tegu dont get a male as these get 5ft females get about 2ft-2.5ft they have a fabules black and white pattern and tend to be very sociable with humans atleast mine is she sits on the couch with us watching tv but they do tend to take a while to settle in

if your going with a snake i would go with an albino burmnese python they do get quite big (168") but they coil up and are fab snakes i youst to own one that was 8ft but soled it after a while as i wanted the black and white tegu

allso good options a pair of terrapins they grow (12") and have amazing personality i allso own 2 of these in a 4x2x2.5 indoor pond no (snapping turtles if you get a good water filter i made my own it wont smell)

i allso own an aquarium whitch is only half filed and there is a mesh top
in it is 2 archer fish (brackish) there is long big pices of bog wood sticking out of the water and loads of branches i put a few crickets in and its amazing to watch the archers firing water at the crickets (they never miss)

these are just some aquariums i own and thourght they might interest you

Seriously? That tank is about 50% too small for any tegu. It's only 18" wide...you want 6'x3' absolute minimum for any tegu species.

If you want lizards you've got a bunch of choices. I wouldn't keep anything larger than a beardie or blue tongue skink in there, but that still leaves you tons of options. You could do a nice uromastyx setup, also ameivas would be cool, with the space you'd be able to watch them hunt etc...I like them because they're sort of small versions of tegus, and very colorful (especially males).

You could definitely keep turtles, with a fx5 you'd have no problem keeping 1 or 2 big turtles or 4-5 small ones clean and smell-free.

NO on the Tegus and no on the Burm. Both get too big for that tank but it would make a good grow out tank that would last a year or two if you went that route.
