So i know this isnt the most practical way, i know this... but i hate unplugging my canister filtersand hob to do water changes... i know it will be a little more work but does anyone syphon a bucket then add a bucket then repeat opposed to taking out 50 gallons at once and then adding... my problem is my old way of pumps and hoses wont work in my new house and i have to wait a couple weeks before I can purchase some python system... and the tank would be half empty for a while probably really stressing the fish considering it will take a while to refill it by hand. The question i have in all this rambling is will this method be effective? Thanks

Well, remove 1 bucket of old water then add a bucket of new water in...This is not a way to do water change cause it doesn't help your water quality. You didn't list your current live stock and how often you doing water change. It's not necessary to do 50% water change if you do WC every week (I know some folks really overkill their WC when they don't have too).

I can't imagine changing out that many buckets of water. I'd say just do whatever it takes to get the python now.

If I had to remove and replace 125g of water by hand/bucket, I'd open the window and jump out. As previous poster said, I'd do whatever it takes to get the python; it almost becomes mandatory on tanks above 55 gallons

Just pic up a cheap piece of hose and siphon it out, then a tap adapter again cheap and refill. Prob cost you less than a McDonald's lol...
You arnt gaining much using the system you are, prob 50 percent your way be equivalent to 10 percent due to clean water being removed as well....
Read up on nitrate creep anyone who dis believes that you need massive weekly water changes when keeping larger fish...

I siphon water off my balcony (2nd floor) the fill it by a hose pulled all the way up
