12g Nano - My 1st Planted Tank

Decided to set up a little 12g nano that I've had for a while (was given to me by my brother after he used it for a reef tank) Well I went to Petco today and bought some sand, plants, and otocinclus for the first inhabitants..everything else has been in the tank and running for about two weeks. Also removed the 3 goldfish fry I was using to cycle it.

I like how it's turning out so far, and I'm going to buy some eloda or cambomba to put in the back to hide the heater and frame the rest of the tank.

Current stock: 5 otocinclus (might add 2 or 3 more), 2 Java ferns, 1 Banana Plant, and some type of Cryptocoryne. Excuse the slight haze in the pix, the sand didn't quite settle yet.

I wouldn`t over do it with the Oto`s though because they`ll die if there`s no food for them! They feed on algae, your tank looks pretty algae free at the moment. I`d love to see more pic`s after you get more plants in there.

Yea I think I'll stay with the 5 for now, if algea ever becomes a problem I'll buy more.

You should try it, you don't know how it's going to turn out until you do. (and post pix)

Got some more pictures after the water cleared up, the otos are settling in nicely.

I like it. Watch out for the ottos because they are a poop machine. They poop like every 2 minutes. a pair of really fancy bettas would look gorgeous in there, imo

Hehe yea I figured that out...one minute the bottom is nice and sandy and clean, the next there's a bunch of little brown flecks all over it.

Right now there's 2 butterfly loaches in there, maybe I'll add some type of dwarf cichlid or go with the betta idea.

I don't really know what it's called, it wasn't labeled in the store but I think it's some type of cryptocoryne.
