Ive only had it a few days but he hasnt eaten yet, Ive offered him freeze dried krill. Should I offer him hikari gold pellets also?? I dont want to get feeders but thats what the lfs was feeding him, how long should I wait??
it is a 12in caribe that probably has been feeding on feeders for a while now since you said thats what the lfs fed it so it probably isnt used to the freeze dried and doesnt see that as food so it might take some time..and also the new tank might get some gettin used to aswell..thats what i think was wrong with my 3 ..after a bout a week or so they were eatin normally
a fish that size, if healthy, could go weeks without food. don't offer feeders at all. try feeding frozen foods like whole shrimp and fish filltes. go to the grocery store and buy talpia, catfish, or any other fillet that has a white meat. offer the thawed food once day and leave it in the tank for 30 mins. if it doesn't eat the fillet pull it out, and try again the next day. the fish will not starve itself.
usually when I get a new fish, I feed it whatever it's used to... once it associates you with food, it'll only take a week or less to introduce new food.
ive been told that a p can go for months without eating, it is common for a fish not to eat for a week after a long move but if its not eating after a couple of weeks turm up temt to about 82 and add a vitemin suppliment this should get it wanting food then pop in a bit of fish and see how you go
Take your time and don't worry about him eating right away.He is a big fish that needs to get used to your tank.. Give him time to adjust and you do not to feed him any feeders.. He will eat other foods when hungry..
But you must be patience...
