I'm in the process of setting up my 130G, and I was wondering what would be the best way to cycle it. I am going to be using two HOB filters for filtration. The problem is that I do not have any established media to use in the filters.

Plan A:
1) Siphon as much water from the 100G into the 130G as possible
2) Put the fish in the 130G
3) Add another treated 30G to the 130G, making it full
4) Fill up the 100G again and let the established filters cycle it

This would still leave the problem of having no beneficial bacteria in the 130G, although the 100G would be cycled in a matter of days due to the in-use filtration.

Plan B:
1) Get about 15 feeder goldfish
2) Dump them in the 130G and let it cycle for a week or two
3) Feed 'em to my fahaka when I put the big fish in there (I usually don't give him live)

This could pose a possible disease situation in the big tank, and I don't really want to risk that.

So guys, what would be the best way to do this? I'm up for suggestions.

when you do a water change on the 100 put that water in the 130. Then put some feeder fish in there and let it cycle for 5-6 days. I did this with my 55. But I'm no expert.

The water from the 100G WC wouldn't even fill up 1/2 of the 130G. I'll take this into consideration, thanks.

What I ment was put the water changed water in the 130 then fill it up with regular water.

Sorry for the confusion.

No, I understand that, it's okay. I just mean that it would still put those fish in a weird situation. Thanks again.

Just get some pure ammonia. Simple and doesn't kill/harm fish. Also, feeders could leave a disease in the tank.

Cycling will take longer than 2 weeks, 4-6 weeks is more like it.

Also, old aquarium water has almost no bacteria in it because the BB live on surfaces in the aquarium.

Werd it took my 55 6 weeks to cycle properly. Be patient please and don't use stress zyme or the equivalent.

Do your self and your fish a favor do a fish less cycle its quicker and creates more beneficial bacteria :)

Wouldn't cycling with goldfish be faster?
