well now that my 90 is set up perfect im gettin a 135 gallon whats the best filter for that ??? i was think 2 emp 400 an a xp3 or xp4 or fluval 405 or eheim2217
I run plenty of Fluval 405's and Emporer 400's with great results. +
Most of the AC filters I have left have been religated to an emergancy use box in the garage.
You can supplement the capacity of the Emporers with supercartrages. This also eliminates the need to buy new filter cartrages making them even more economical to run.
very well...yes. they replace both the factory pad and the media basket. Its basicly a bed for extra biomass with two reuseable filter pads in the center. We usually pick them up on Ebay. At the moment we have 5 or 6 400's running and a couple of 280's with more on order for some new tanks. You can also use cheap pond filter pads to cut replacment filter pads out of. I use two sets per filter and rotate them so it only takes a couple of minutes to replace them all.
I run a Emp 400 and a Eheim 2217 on one of my tanks and it keeps it in superb conditions. I say the Eheim will work better for you but the Fluval 405 is a good filter as well. I personally would take an ehiem over a fluval any day but both have flaws. Eheim tubes have a habit of cracking or bending easily and it reduces flow dramatically. Fluvals design of their baskets IMO aren't all that great. It feels as though alot of water is being bypassed and not going through the media. Wolf3101 I know you are going to disagree with me as I know you are a die hard fan of the fluvals but it's just my experience with fluvals.
LOL I never argue for the sake of argument..I leave that to those on here who live for it...The baskets overlap enough to prevent bypass from bieng a problem and what little remains just acts to keep the flow moving. I also have no real problem with Eheims except for the fact that they are overpriced. I used Marineland cannisters YEARS and YEARS ago and the new ones seem to be worth looking into. I've personally seen too many failures with Rena filters to be happy with one but the fact remains that I have a number of Fluval 405/s and FX5's that are doing a great job and I have no plans to replace them any time soon.
I should probubly point out that before the 404 series came out you couldn't GIVE me a Fluval cannister so this isn't misplaced loyalty here it's the voice of expierance.
