Hi just signed up after a long time lurking, I like to think I know what I'm talking about with Central and South Americans but some of you guys just take it to an other level!

Literally tomorrow morning I am placing an order for a 6 foot tank. Its a 135g tank not as huge as I would like but my biggest tank to date which is quite exciting :)

The main aim of this tank is to house my current fish that are in a grow out tank of which they are pretty much out grown..... this upgrade is overdue but due to a house flood can only happen now :/

So the stock so far is

1 Male Heros Seveus - 4 years old (approx 7 inches)
1 Female Nicaraguan
4 Geophagus Winemilleri (WC Rio Negro)
5 Annostomus Ternetzi
15 Lemon Tetras
2 Sturisoma Auream (spelling(
1 Whiptail sp.
1 Agensious sp. Blue - believed to be cf. Atronasus

As I say the main aim of the tank is to house the above comfortably but come on whats a new tank without new fish :) Just looking for any ideas really :) Trying quite hard to find a source of a female Theraps Coeruleus though as you can imagine not coming up with much luck.

So yeah just throw any ideas at me :)

I'm not really going to try to answer your question here because I'm not sure about some of those fish as I have never kept them.... but I do have a question for you. How does the lemon tetra nic combo work? I have kept nics for a while and although peacefull while young I have noticed they turn into little monster when the hit the 6ish inch mark... I had to move my nic away from my firemouths, friedrichsthalli, and bocourti. Due to aggresion issues... he is now in with my jag, black belt and fenestrautus and even there he trie to ruff up the jag and fenestrautus.... just courious...

Sorry for not addressing your issue... from what I know (I have never kept geos, or whiptails) it seems as though it should all work... once again never kept geos but from what I have read (a fair amount) about them) I believe it should be fine. But I really do question the nic... kinda seems outta place.

wow really I didnt realise they were that bad? Mine is a female and just over a year old now at about 4 inches she has started tons of fights with other fish but always looses however no serious damage in the tank ever - as a result of her anyway I have had problem fish in the past. With the lemon tetras they are just ignored by everyone.

The only issue with agression I have had in the past year or so actually now I think about it is with my Sev and my Nic after I had to move house around xmas when they got back together my sev just acted up loads but I shuffled the tank around with decor and it calmed him down.

I have to admit I am almost at the point where I dont want to add any more cichlids to the tank even in the upgrade because of how well these 6 seem to get on....

I think if mine takes a turn like yours it would be a tough decision with what to do - as to just keep her and restock with tougher centrals or rehome her and go for something like a blue acara or something it would need thinking about I suspect.....
I really hope it never gets to that stage though as she is utterly a true pet in all meanings as is my Severum......

They really do have loads of personality and are really attractive... I hope that words out for you as well. If you add anything I would go with buenos aires tetras like 10 of them. They would look great they get a bit on the larger size and nothing has a big mouth in you tank... and they are really acrive.

You know maybee my nics have just been flukes, I have kept 6 of them and I've only had 2 females.. both females just hung with there males all day. And I kept two males at seperate times.. 1 of them went tarded on day and just sat there swimming into the glass slowly all the time it would eat anything and sat in a cornenr all the time just running into the glass. The other I still have and he's a great fish... just to aggresive for a lot of my medium aggresive fish..

Yeah I have heard of them turning at 6 inches though so I reckon I need to be careful which I will be but she is just utterly gorgeous

Nice pic... yeah from what I can see pretty good looking nic. They are really under rated imo. Not many keep them and there very nice looking fish... in good color there one of the most diversly colorer c. Americans. Once again that's my opinion.

thanks :)

I am thinking of getting an other severum or two at the minute - Ill try and get a rottie and a belum I think - also quite want some glass knives and a trio of flagtail cats :) But I reckon its a bit much all of that? What do you think?

I bet the cichlids would be cool... if you have the filtration for it all.... I'm not reallyinto mixing much with cichlids... except dwarf cichlids.... I have just found that most things mixed with them end up dead... but I have never kept geos.... one day I will but for now I'm limited to 4 bigger tanks and two smaller... and I'm pretty stocked up... although I am going to get some thorichthys aureus. Let me give you my stock list really quik. First off tanks 110, 125, 180, 55, 29 gallon reef, 20L planted. My bigger 4 are all for cichlids. Central american only: pair of firemouths (retired breeders about 6 y/o), p. Managuesis, p. Frierichsthalli, p. Loisellei (I think possibly freddy), vieja maculada, vieja fenestrautus, rainbow cichlid, bocourti, male nic, pair salvini, 5 cutteri, 5 pearsei, and then my not cichlids in my big tanks are, a red hook s/d, a sun cat, L 200 blue phantom, common pleco. Then my planted tank has 10 rummy nose tetras and about 20 amano shrimp and a few ottos, and my reef is 3 types of mushrooms a coral banded shrimp and a midas blenny. That's what I have now... when I get a bigger house I want to set up a 6 footer for tapajos always wanted to keep those.

All I can say is WOW that is such a list, Im only in a position to have one tank at the moment and its finally come to fruition as a 6 footer. But wow that is such a fantastic collection :D though I do have a 10g micro FW tank but thats up for sale as its a bit of a chore for me compared to my level of enjoyment. So just stripped the high needs plants out and left the wood in for the fish in there.

Just been for some food at an LFS and they had a really nice sub adult Veija Regini in really gorgeous but a bit beat up from a Leporinus that was in the same tank! I have heard that they are the calmest of the Veijas Im not thinking of this one specifically but perhaps try a juvi to grow up but I dont know if its just a stupid idea to try a Veija with some Geos......
