Just bought a 14 inch ornate polypterus at the lfs for 100 bucks. big, beautiful fish, couldn't stand seeing it in the little tank they had it in. just wondering if I paid too much. will post pictures soon, he (or she) has been real skittish , but as soon as it's settled i will try to get some pics

you're always going to pay more at an LFS, it depends on how much you wanted the Ornate whether you got a good deal or not.

my first bicher was an ornate, was 12" long when i got him. i got him in a deal with some other fish that i actually wanted.. lol. but he kinda grew on me, and now i have lots of bichers.. lol.

agree on that point. I suppose if i was willing to pay it than it was worth it. beautiful fish, tail messed up a little but looks to be healing well. really excited because I've always wanted a poly and the ornates are my favorite

Correct about the lfs and, the inflated prices. I had to get an ornate for $50 @ 3". So to me that a great price.

Paid $40 for my 7'' one. Usually they arnt expensive around here because my lfs has a lot of big ones that people keep bringing back. Also this isn't related to the price but if you want to get a really good bright yellow and dark black use a dark substrate, it really brought the color out in mine.
