I got a 15" ORNATE BICHIR that is in a 130g with a one foot florida gar and an 18 inch clownknife. The bichir is TOO SLOW to catch live feeders and when I put in market shrimp it doesn't notice it. Is there a way to feed the bichir help please i had it for 2 weeks w/o food.

This topic actually comes up a lot. Its pretty well accepted that ornates are very shy feeders, esspecially ornates new to your tank! Add to that its normal believe it or not for polys to go on hunger strikes that can last for MONTHS.

I'll give you the same advice I always give about poly feeding - RELAX...feed at night for a while until your ornate gets bold enough to eat during the day (it should happen within a few months), and make sure your temp is over 80 (I find it actually makes a VERY big difference in poly appetites).

Btw, I didn't see my ornate (the one in my avatar) eat for the first six months I had it, yet he kept growing. But now he ATTACKS food as it enters the tank. It just takes time for them to settle in...dont worry too much :)

my god! six freakin months! thats outragously long! My Synspilum hasn't eaten at all or so from when im seeing for over 4 months! and im afraid already...but now he eats :D

i didn't have any trouble with mine. got it at 8". it ate nite crawlers and meal worms and superworms. I recommend that first. then it started eating shrimp, tilapia and catfish fillet. now it's 12" and it always ate feeders. Yes it was able to catch them.

then got a new endli and it kept attacking the endli so I sold the ornate. now i miss it.

massivore pellets mine took to them right off the bat
