Probably not as exciting as the title states, but after 15 years I finally said enough is enough and pulled the trigger on an EBJD. Hopefully this little spunky guy doesn't randomly croak on me.

Am I being paranoid? Have these gotten better and more durable than they were 10-15 years ago?

That's funny, I think I got my first (and last) approx. 15 yrs ago when Rapps first brought them in. Congrats, and good luck! They are still genetically weak fish overall, not all, but IMO overall.

I dont know about overall, but I got this guy 4 months ago and no issues so far. I got him at The Wetspot in person not mail order.

He is about 3.5 inches now. I got him at the normal LFS size of 1.5in. He is actually starting to outgrow his normal JD mate.

Overall, as in over the long haul. Mine was 6-7" when I lost him to ich. Totally my fault for the introduction of ich, but he was the only fish in the community that died. A friend from the same Rapps order had his die for no apparent or obvious reason when it was 8". One day eating acting fine, next morning DOA when he turned the lights on. I rarely see pics here on MFK, other than juvies shortly after they have been purchased. Where are all the pics of 8-10" adults? You would think anyone owning specimens at that size would be wanting to show them off, yet it seems to be a rare occurrence. Just going over the threads posted here over the years lots of members have purchased one or more, yet never an adult update. Maybe just a big coincidence, but I don't think so. I'm not the only person that considers this color morph (or hybrid, depending on who/what one believes) is an overall weak strain of fish.
