hi guys, i found a 150 gallon fish tank with stand and lights and even includes filters however im in a dilemma......

First, im on the top floor of my apartment ( only 3 floors total) so this kinda worries me. i bought insurance for the apartment so the tank is covered if it does any damaged. Any experience?

Second is the cost. The individual will not budge from 400. Is this setup worth that much or more?

please give me your advice.

Cheers

People have had questions about a tank on the second floor..

My advice is.. to avoid a crashing tank.. dont.. if the floor support isnt what you think is.. then dont risk it..

How old is the apartment? Here in California.. some of the apartments are wood floors.. because we're in an earthquake zone.. so its a risk..

But the price is attractive enough..

I live on the 3rd floor of my apt building .. and i have a 150 in my living room as well as a 55gal sump under it .. and a 75 gal ... also have a 10 gal in my kitchen and a 120 gal tank in my bedroom ..

the 150 has been here for 2 years .. and the 120 for a year ..

so all the people telling you that its going to make the building fall down there crazy ..

as long as you have it up against a load barring wall and have it running across as many floor joist as you can you should be 100% ok .

Currently i have a 55 gallon tank in my living room along one wall. When i walk past i cant see any waves really. The new tanks frame is 72 inches long so it will take up more suface area. But its still ~2100. So far with the 55 it would seem there is no problem. and i feel better knowing i have insurance on it.

The floor

I pulled back a bit of the carpet and all i can see is cement. Yet if i jump up and down on the floor i can hear eckos. So its not solid cement. is there anywhere else i can go to see what the floor is mad up from?

let me know

Cheers

you can ask the owners what kind of floor .. and they might even be able to put you in contact with the builder ... or someone who knows how it was built .. and ask the questions .. but really 150 gal is not that big .. think of a fridge .. the footprint is much smaller .. but the weight is less .. but the lbs per sq ft are not that much off when its full of beers ..

:iagree:Glad to hear you have insurance on it.You should be alright as long as you are on an exterior wall.
