Hi everyone, My new 150 gallon (180x50x60) aquarium is currently cycling and I'm sorting out the stocking list. It will be stocked with various new world cichlids. The tank will be filtered by 2 eheim 2217 canister filters and It is decorated with a moderately fine brown gravel, driftwood and sturdy fake plants. Below is a list of the fish I like. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Blue acara
Green terror
Severum
Salvini cichlid
Nicaragua cichlid
Texas cichlid

Hi, welcome to MFK.
I think your stock would work, but the Blue Acara may be in trouble since he is not really aggressive. The GT is not the most aggressive of your stocklist, but in my experience they pick on Blue Acaras (sort of conspecific aggression). Even without the GT the Blue Acara is not a good idea.
Also watch the Texas, since he will probably be dominating that tank.

Hi guys, thanks for the feedback. I am not to fussed about omitting the blue acara from the list considering they are quite similar to the green terror (which was my preference anyway). I do plan on buying very young fish and having them grow up together. I had thought about specific numbers but thought I would get some advice on how many of each species to get or whether to keep them singly. How many of each would you guys recommend? Are there any others you would recommend adding? Thanks again for your help.

i do not know how many you should get, but u can replace the acara with a silver aro. how about putting in baby shovel nose or gars?

I wouldn't get an aro or shovelnose, both get too big in my opinion. Arowana might be possible, but still..
As for the cichlids I'd get just 1 of all of them.

Thankyou for the suggestions. I'm pretty set on this being an american cichlid tank and I don't feel comfortable with keeping an arowana in a tank this size. I believe I will just keep 1 of each of the species I have listed without the blue acara. How do people feel this leaves me in a stocking sense? Completely stocked or room for more?

Actually the salvini is the most agressive of your stock list. A blue Acara can hold its own espicially in a bigger tank like that. Yes by all means stay away from arrowanna and any of the larger catfish. A 150 is too small for them.

My GT is very peaceful but almost killed a Blue Acara.. and that's in a 190. But on second thought I do agree about the Salvini's aggression.

I had heard that due to the similarities in the green terror and blue acara that there were some aggression issues. So I don't mind leaving it out. I had also seen that the salvini can be agressive but will everything planned for this tank be able to hold its own? Also would the best method of introduction be to add all the fish as close to at the time as possible when they are young. Thanks again for your help guys.
