lah lah land.
Hello all! I'm brand new to the site and I think it's awesome. I need some advice. I currently have a 55 gallon tank with two oscars and a pleco in it. I know that 55 is way to little. My oscars as well as my pleco are about 8 inches long and all beautifully healthy. I am in the market for 150 gallon tank at the moment, but I am worried it may be too much for my 2nd story apt. The building is fairly new and seems well constructed. Has anyone out there had a tank that size in a 2nd story apt before? I know with stand I'm looking at about 1350 lbs. Thank you for reading.

I got a 180 in my bedroom and have no problems. If you think about it a bath full of water would be similar to a 150 gal. Dont forget the joists that support the floor have got to take the weight of the walls and roof to a certain extent so I reckon you will be OK. Just watch out for leaks - you can get some angry neighbours downstairs if you have a mis-hap.

Should be fine, especially in a new apartment building, as they are constructed rather well. A couple things to think about are 1.) Does the hallway allow enough room to get it in to your apartment 2.) Some apartments will require you to have renter's insurance that covers water damage for a tank of that size. I had a 55, 2 46 corners, and various other smaller tanks in my 3rd floor apartment, and got drilled about the insurance. Just something to check into.

I'm not afraid of getting drilled about insurance because my wife and I are the on-sight property managers. However, I would look like an idiot If anything went wrong. It says in the lease no fish tanks or water beds at all, but I think it is because water damage is the building owner's liability. the restriction is not due to structural support (I don't think). We also have a dog which we're not allowed. We're bad examples for our tenants to say the least........ooops!
