im thinking of taking my 150, 4"x2" in a different direction and was thinking of trying out a native tank. i love fishing.. and have been fooling around in creeks with wild animals since i was a kid so it seems like the next logical step. i was just wondering how you guys trap crayfish? i used to be able to find them no problem probably close to 7 or 8 years ago in a creek near where i used to live but i'm having some trouble now. i'm familiar with diy minnow traps of the inside-out soda bottle variety but even those don't seem to work very well for me. anyway is there a better variant for catching crayfish?

also i can more than likely get a ton of pan fish babies, about an inch in size and was wondering if i could introduce an alligator snapping turtle to whatever mix i choose? i realize they're not necessarily "native"(new york), but common snappers are only semi aquatic and i'd really like to own an AST. i feel like it would tie the tank together nicely and give some contrast to the peacefulness. plus, as far as free fish that i collect.. they might as well be potential food. especially if i can get a crayfish colony established.

also.. would i be able to fit a large mouth bass? small, like 4 inches if i can manage to catch another one? i like to start my fish out small and watch them grow so he'll have some time but so long as i provide lots of brush and line-of-sight breaks for the crappie to escape him.. does it sound as possible as i'm thinking?

I have made my own crayfish traps by makin a cylinder from hardware cloth then puttin ramps on the 2 ends leavin some room for the crayfish to crawl up and fall off the ramp into the trap. I twist part of a hanger into the middle of the trap where i stick my bait

ohhh okat i think i know what you mean.. i think i've heard of people doing that to catch mice but with a 5 gallon bucket and a wooden dowel, they climb onto the dowel for whatever baits in the middle, slip off into the bucket and ect. ect. because there water or something at the bottom. i hadn't thought of that thanks.. i've just gotta find some deep enough water, where i usually go is pretty shallow
