hey gang, i just got a new 150 tall, its awesome! and id like some advice on stocking it, its going to have a 30gal sump, and a fluva 405.
my girlfriend has 2 tinfiols out growing her 55 so they will be going in the tank
i have a juvinile florida gar that will go in there aswell as a large synodontis cat
i would love a fw ray
and i just sold my arrow so id like a new one probly black or jardini
im interested in a flounder becuase i hear they are hardier than rays and more forgiving
any one have any good ideas or contrabutions, i am open to all sugestions,

oh ps. im not just a noob looking for ideas, iv kept lots of large and unruley fish and im very good about water changes and chemical balances

48 x 24 x 31 right?

I wouldn't advise a Flordia Gar, Flounder, Arrow or a Ray for a 150g.

Are you looking for more of an oddball tank or just want a couple "larger" type fish?

well a little of both, im no stranger to waterchanges and rutine cleanings im allso not scared of shelling out for an expensive fish, i have a soft shell turtle i might put in there if the fish can tollerate it and i know i wont with a ray or any fragile fish, i am facinated with the labarynth fish, and i own or have owned several. i had an electric cat for a long time and got tired of getting knocked on my ass every week, i used to have lots of mean cichlids (south american) in a 125, but got tired of loosing tank mates, so iguess to answer your question i do like odd balls but i am fond of monsters

Few things come to mind with that footprint.

Tropheus tank - come in many color variations
Discus tank w/clown loaches & tetra school - peaceful tank with great coloration. If you're not scared of religious water changes when they're younger this could be an amazing looking tank.
For oddballs (not all of them) Bichir, BGK, Eels come to mind - I don't know what requirements a single Dat would need but could possibly have one of those.

Trying to think of fish that would use the height of the tank, because with most fish you're limited on stocking for a 48x24 tank - Discus would do well because of the extra height.

not a huge fan of brackish, tryd it and it lasted a few months, so mush salt creep i might aswell had a salt water tank. i have an albino segal bicher i might put in there but i would like a few big fish, what would be the draw back of a ray? just they get to big or is it the sensitivity?

Too big, I know it's a 150g tank but you're working with a 48x24 footprint and that's the limiting factor.

dang. short nose gar? lol maybe if i could satisfy my oddball craving with one very odd fish then stock it with small barbs or community fish (tho i have several community tanks. along with a rainbow 125)

Well, what about your bichir and maybe a BGK (I don't know how their compatibility is, would have to check the knife subsection) and then either a Dat (again would have to check the Dat forums for comparability) or a larger cichlid?

OR!

Instead of a Dat or cichlid for a good mid swimming fish, look up a Fei Feng - I really want one of those :D
