My new blue panaques are showing an affinity only for algae and leafy greens. The current CFL bulb may not be growing enough algae to keep them happy. Should I bust out the big guns? Can I put a halogen bulb into the housing, and (if so) should I go with the next higher or next lower wattage bulb since there are no 150 watt halogen bulbs around my area? Or will the orange monster do the trick as it is?

So I'm really the first person to think of this? Fine. I'll set it up tomorrow and get some pics.

Metal Halide and High-Pressure Sodium are both HID lights that use similar ballasts and sockets, but they are not interchangeable. There are conversion bulbs available, but they cost big bucks. Halogen is different altogether and doesn't fit the same fixtures. Sodium bulbs will grow plenty of algae, though, so there is really no need to switch bulbs.
