Getting a 150g tank soon and want to do a nice active tank . So would like a nice group of Geophagus nothing small , a species that get to 8" roughly ( How many??) Would have some other nice shoaling fish in there aswell like some tiger striped dollars , a group of larger tetras, would love some Fasciatus not sure how that work? It has to be active but with the Geo's as the main attraction . Ideas would be nice .

What's the foot print of that 150g? That will have an impact on how many Geos you can keep.
I'm kind of partial to Red Head Tapajos. The males will get to 8". The females stay a bit smaller.
They go well with Rotkiel Severums, which in my opinion are one of the prettier heros species - but if you're set on Fasciatus you could do that. I think they get pretty big though. Bigger than the Rotkiels.

I'd skip the silver dollars entirely. Bleeding Heart Tetras would do just fine.

It would d pens on how crowded a tank you're willing to maintain. A standard 150 has a 72x18 footprint and limits you if you want larger geos. I'd say six Altifron, dicrozoster, winemilleri, or sveni max. If you do pindare, red head tapajos, or taeinporaneus, you can squeak by with 8.

If adding tankmates, you'd have to reduce numbers.

For larger tetras, you can do bleeding hearts, Colombian blues, or large diamond tetras, That would be more effective in keeping water quality high compared to the tiger stripes silver dollars.

I'd say buy a large group of whatever you decide and whittle down the stock as they grow, keeping the nicest ones for a stunning display.

Looks like water quality won't be an issue. I think given the length, you'd want to stay away from Altifrons and sveni as they can get 10 inches to a foot and would look large relative to the tank.

Altifrons can be 10"? O.o I thought max size in the wild barely hit 9 inches, I have them in my community tank and they are barely break 6 inches but I have them little over a year.

Winemilleri can get 10" as well. I'd go with 6 or 7 Tapajos or Steindacheri. If keeping the steinis I'd go 2 males and the rest female, or all male. If you go 50/50 the females will get worn down and not do well (in my experience). Tapajos you can do whatever: half male and half female.

I'd stand by Rotkiels for the heros, but that's just me. Mrrobxc's Tetra suggestions are all good.

If you're not deadest on a biotope I've seen colourful rainbows and rose line sharks (Denison barbs?) that would also look nice in a shoal.

What size do tapejo and steindacheri max out at ?

I know steindacheri stay small like 6". My LFS had some and they are gorgeous. You could probably have a nice size group of those.
