:cry:Right now I have a 15 inch Royal Knife fish. I wanted a little variety in the tank so I thought I would give my knife a tank buddy. I did some research and learned that an arrowana is usually a compatible mate. I went to the fish store and purchased a 8in arrowana. I thought that she wasn't to small and they would get along great. The salesman told me the same. Keep in mind that I do feed my knife feeder fish, but I always give him the small ones. Well the day I put the arrowana in the tank, I included 2dozen feeders so they can both eat. They got along great the first night. I went home yesterday and the arrowana was gone! I can't beleive that he ate her!! That was an expensive fish!!! I was so mad! If there was a way I could have grounded him, I would have!

So now here is my question. What can I put with him? What should the min. size be? I don't want to keep buying fish just for him to eat. Any advise would be much appreciated!! Thanks!

I think that the Arowana probably looked like a tasty worm to a 15" Knife. If you want to try again, try to get one that's 13"-20"

Right now I only have a 125gal. I just upgraded from a 55gal though.

OK so I just called the fish store that I bought my arrowana from. They told me that I must have been starving my knife fish in order for him the eat the arrowana!! I usually give him a dozen feeders on tuesday and a dozen on sunday. He told me I should have 100 feeders in the tank with him, and if he always had food in the tank, he wouldn't eat my expensive fish. I feel like that is really overfeeding him. He wont eat pellets or anything else, only feeders. What are you guys feeding your knifes that are close in size? I don't know how much I should feed him, and how often. PLEASE HELP!!!

That's what I was going to say.

Also - putting lots of feeders in the tank is a bad idea. I wouldn't put more than he can eat at one time in there.

Yea I did think that he jumped out but it looked like the RKF had a lump in the side of his throat. I looked around and didnt see him anywhere!! I called pet stores all over my area and no one has arrowana's in stock!! =(

our RCK eats shrimp, earthworms, tiplia filets, mussels, etc.....Yours is big enough let him go w/o food for a couple of days.....then try some pieces of shrimp...what he doesn't eat in 10 minutes net out....pretty soon he'll figure out he's hungry and eat the shrimp..Mine eats once to twice a day, early morning and before lights out....Knifes will let you know when their hungry they start prowling the tank...BTW sure the LFS told you to keep feeders stocked in your tank , he's counting your money..$$$
