Would this be a bad idea? I just got a heads up on a shoal of 8 tiger barbs that might need to be rehomed & this tank would be the only place I could put them.

I'd imagine it would work fine, just figured I'd ask. I'm running an xp3 & magnum hot250 for filtration and i also have a powerhead I could add a sponge to for just a tiny bit more oomph if need be. Right now everything in the tank is coexisting fine. I used to have 2 (and most recently 3) female convicts in the tank, but I just gave them all away....

so you have 8 T-Barbs with the jack now? If so I would think your fine. Unless the newly acquired ones are babies, then they may look like dinner. I love my T-barbs, right now they share a tank with a very little Texas I'm growing out, Its planted with heavy current (some reason heavy water flow is the only way I can keep plants alive), they love the flow, and they swim through it effortlessly, and some of mine are tiny babies.

Yeah I've got the 8 right now & they're all fine, probably all between 1 & 2". The jack pretty much ignores them except for the occasional 'get the hell away from me' nip.

Cool then, I'll probably take them if they do end up needing a rehome.

i would not do it i had that combo that the jd ended up eating them all.

^ mines already proven to not eat them...he's been with the 8 for months now.

LOL, for my Jack, his "get the hell away from me nip" results in headless fish. My jack has calmed a lot in the past 6 months and is doing remarkably well (to my surprise and delight) with small Juvy Cichlids, and oddballs (I wanted to get him adjusted to big tank upgrade coming in Jan), but I know him, and if a fish fits in his mouth its num num time. But I think that is my fault for giving him feeders a lot when he was younger.

Yeah...mine is still fairly young. He's probably 5" long from nose to the tip of his fin. But so far he's been raised with bichirs, tiger barbs, pictus cats, convicts & snails and he hasn't really messed with anything. He does devour convict fry but I think thats the only live I've seen him eat. And he doesn't so much 'nip' as just chase away really. He's a bully, thats for sure, but he doesn't get all that physical, at least so far.
