I have a fluval fx5 on my 160 gallon right now but would like to switch it up and build a sump for it.

No idea how big I should go, no idea how to set up the sump, no idea how to set up the plumbing since my tank isn't drilled and i have no interest in drilling it.

Any info and help would be greatly appreciated.

There's a 10 inch beani, 5 fancy pleco's, and a 2 inch red tail cat. The bio load isn't too bad right now but I'd like to get this tank running pristine for when the beani gets bigger.

The red tail cat won't be staying in the tank forever, just till he's a little bigger.

So ya, any help would be awesome and thanks in advance for the input

Hey, for a sump you would aNt the biggest tank/container possible as a sump. Bigger sump = more media = more filteration. Then you would have to put baffles in it...thier are many lay outs on the web. Mine has three compartments... You should purchase an over flowbox to bring the water down to your sump where it would enter a filter sock or some other mechanical filteration...then the water will travel from the sock to the next conpartment...bio filteration (Pond matrix is best IMO according to reads)...then the water thru a pump will travel back up to your tank.

Hope that gave you some idea my 72 gallon bowfront has a 33 gallon sump will have a large filter sock, 5 gallons worth of pond matrix, and i may throw in other media such as carbon.

Once again hope that was't to confusing thiers a bunch of ways to set up a sump
