Been fish keeping for 5+ years now, but have really only focused on cichlids with some plecos and loaches maybe a yellow tail zig zag eel thrown into that mix. I'm seriously thinking of changing up my stock to something a bit on the wild side for me, which is why I'm in this sub-forum. That and I'm setting up a 75g that will be...you guessed it, cichlids!

The tank in question is a 160g 72"x20"x25" and if it matters will be upgraded to a 96"x24"x24" in 2 years +- a few months (signed a 2 year lease on my current place, so when I move out I want to get a bigger tank, 2 year savings plan already in the works and even if I stay in my current place I'll be getting the 240). Filtration on this tank is an FX5 and an XP3 with a UV (again not sure if that matters).

I would prefer not to have a single fish, would want at least 3 fish. I hope my tank isn't too small :( - that's my biggest concern for anything outside of cichlids.

So I've been cruising all sorts of MFK sub-forums today and found a ton of fish that I would love to keep one day, however that day is not today :).

For some that I do really like - Yellow Tail Barracuda, Red Tail Barracuda, Bichirs, Florida Gar, AT Dat, Fire Eel, Tire Track Eel, Silver Dollars

Now obviously I can't have all those, but could anyone piece together a tank stock from the above?

Maybe something like 3 tats, 3 red tail barracudas and a bichir. That would be a cool setup to me. Maybe add some silver dollars as dithers if you want more movement.

Read that tats really don't like other 'silvery' fish but maybe they would do well with an AT Dat and a tiretrack?

Tatauaia is hit or miss with other silvery fish. Some are hateful, some are OK.

For a 75, I wouldn't recommend more than 1 tat for life. Keep in mind that this is a fish that given sufficient time will reach 18" long. Granted though, that will take a long time. They are slow growers to 10" (.5" a month a best) and slow down significantly after that point.

These fish can be very active swimmers and will appreciate crashing current and white water. Mine used to swim all day into the power heads. A slack spot in the current is appreciated by the fish.

The redtail cudas grow even slower and would be threatened by the tat eventually. As long as they're about the same size it should be OK.

I can't really speak for the eel, I'm not familiar with them.

I missed that you were upgrading to a 240- a trio of tats should be fine.

i know you didnt mention these but why not have a mixed shoal of pygos?

I have a 160 gallon that's 20" wide at the moment and will be upgrading to a bare minimum of a 240 gallon in 2 years (plus or minus a month or two). Have almost half of what a 240 costs new in my savings already so thinking I'll just keep saving and maybe get something that's 30" wide...but for all intents and purposes figure a 240 gallon in 2 years.

a pack of 5 tats. Let them live together at a young age.
