I laugh good with this one :P
Although, I used hand sanitizer often just cause I don't want to get sick (folks around me getting sick all the time accept me....) so I do not want to put my hand in my tank...Imagine if I forgot to wash my hand and do in tank work/maintains....
no, that's the point...

Hand sanitizer is much safer for fishtanks than soaps and detergents. Alcohol is safe because it evaporates and leaves no residue

I use windex on glass tanks and acrylic cleaner on acrylic tanks. I never spray the tank. I spray the microfiber cloth. I wash my hands often (especially between tanks). I then use hand sterilizer and let it dry before I put my hands in the next tank.
I used to not use the sanitizer and only started using it when I developed a reaction to bloodworms. Before then was just Dawn dish detergent with anti-bacterial agents.
Juts on the outside glass/acrylic though, right? You don't spray Windex on the INSIDE of your tanks, do you?

AFAIK, soap kills fish, coral, etc. but not in trace amounts. IIRC, one needs to drop in a good size chunk.

That's what some competing LFSs do, I was told - swing by and casually drop a bar of soap into your central filtering system. Horrible people unburdened by any conscience.

I'd not think a well washed soap container must be avoided, albeit I myself probably wouldn't use it. There is so many plastic containers around anyone's household, esp. those used for food.

see, it's stupid posts like this people get mis-led into thinking it's ok to use soaps and solvents. If you want to kill your fish, that's ok, I can't tell you what to do, but don't post stuff like this so other people can read it and kill their fish by following bad advice..

Aren't you only like 16 anyway?
Lol 16 but have done a heck of a lot more then you buddy. Don't mislead people with your inexperience, maybe try something then determine for your self what happens?

You guys use soap on your fish tanks? A little Windex to clean the inside of the glass?

Ah HELL, why don't we all just dump a capful of Mr. Clean right into the filter and give the fishes a BATH while we're at it......why not? A HOB and Washing machine's outflow looks the same, if it looks the same it must be the same.

I wonder how many Zoos, Public Aquariums, and Professionals use SOAP and DETRGENTS on ttheir fishtanks.....
The subject. Would you use a container that once contained a soap based product after being cleaned?

I was wondering why you turn Mega-troll when someone tries to tell you something you don't wanna hear. I'm just gonna go ahead an LOL @ your last statement because it's simply not possible for someone like me to take that seriously.

You just got 2 more responses from 2 more experts, HIGHLY sought after on MFK for advice with AT LEAST the same 30 years experience as myself, if not more.

You have 2 choices - you can listen and learn or be a stubborn child. it's up to you. Just don't let your fish suffer for your ignorance

I'm done w/ the discussion.

I made a point to help you, got pros to back it up , nothing more needed to say.

You make your own choices. You'll be a man one day soon, gotta start learning one way or another

You never asked the question to any of them, "is a container that once contained soap that has been washed safe to use?" You simply stated "would you put soap in your tank" and the answer to that is obvious
