Hey can anyone tell me if these are good for plants? I was thinking of getting some plants in with my Arowanas.
Thanks

TTT! Anyone?

Why won't they do the plants no good?

They would get next to no useable light for photosynthesis from 18,000K. So your plants would look great until they starve.

Okay thanks! Anything else I should know?

Well after reading up a little more on the power-glo lights, they do have a 18,000K bulb that has peaks in the red spectrum so that could work for the plants.

Typically a kelvin rating that high is mostly blue and no significant red spectrum and plants need both for photosynthesis.

Thanks! Anything else? :D

There is a bunch of stuff that can be learned, all depends on what you want to keep such as CO2, substrate and fertilizers.

I used to grow plants like crazy with them.

had two 24" over a 30 gallon and 2 48" over a 65 gallon long (48x18x18).

no problems growing jungle val, hygro and huge amazon swords (with root tabs of course.).

I used liquid fertilizer too. replaced them every 6-8 months which is recommended if you keep live plants.

I liked them because they were not 'yellow/green" like the 6700K bulbs...
