I currently have a 180 gallon aquarium with a 2 oscars, 2 jack dempseys, and a few silver dollars. The tank has been setup for a few years and stays clean and the fish are healthy but my question is about changing the filtration.

The tank has 2 built in overflows and returns and I have a wet dry filter with an external air cooled pump. I also have a hang on the back marineland emperor biowheel 400 and 2 emperor biowheel 280's for supplemental filtration.

My only reason for wanting to change is the external air cooled pump for the wet/dry is that it is too loud and i'm trying to keep the noise to a minimum. Any suggestions on a high volume external air cooled pump, or submursible pump. Or any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, is it possible to use a canister filter or filters with the built in overflows?

Thanks
JK

Im running a 'mag drive 1800' and it suprised me how quiet it is. I love it, it is so quiet and I believe you can runn it external, I have mine submersed.

You just need a less noisy pump! Example: My Sequence 750 pumps (external) are super quite. So are my Iwakis. I recently bought a GenX from Foster's and Smith because they were on sale and said to be quite. Not! That is one noisy S.O.B.! It works fine but hums, rattles, vibrates like crazy. When I get around to it, I plan on replacing it with something else. What a waste of money!:irked:

Yes it is. An Eheim has wet/dry canisters out but theyll make you force a few hundred out of your wallet.

Thanks for the suggestions, i'm looking for a quieter pump, the local fish store suggested a mag drive 1800 or 2400, so i'm thinking about using one of those.
