HI all, I am new here. Currently have a Fahaka puffer and I am upgrading to a 180G glass. I believe the dimensions are 72 " x24 x24

Im buying the glass tank brand new & looking for a cost efficient stand. Plan is to get 2 pieces of plywood the size of the tank with cinder blocks. Few questions here

1) How many cinder blocks total?
2) What sealant to use exactly ? I heard epoxy works but which one is necessary? see homedepot.com

What would the total costs be for the cinder block stand?

I know a 180g is not necessary, but I love getting a bigger than necessary tank so my fish can swim freely. I am going to risk it by getting some neons and pray they can co-exist.

Maybe a Steel stand would be a good option. They are very strong. Not to spendy when compared to the wood ones and look very nice and clean.

Puffer,

Welcome to MFK,

I have Cinder stands on both my 75 and 55. They are very strong. Mine are set up with 6 blocks each, but for your application I would use Minimum of 9 16" and 9 8", 3 16" and 3 8" on each end and 3 of each in the middle. Could go 4 high. Here is mine (pardon the mess.....moving)

A couple tips,

If it is on carpet put down a plywood base, This help greatly in leveling the tank.

Stack no more than 2 high before a shelf. This stabilizes the stand.

Blocks are 16" so you will either need an 8" square block or put blocks sideways making 3 t's. For my 75 I have 2" overlap front and back of wood because my tank is 20". But I would not push it with your tank. You could also

Paint them with any concrete paint. Thicker the better. I just stayed natural because some day I will encase the blocks with plywood.

Not Pretty, but sturdy. Will cost you about $60 to build. If you have wood working skills you could build a nice wood stand for just a little more. I had to go this way cause I live in Apt. Moving into a house and may be replacing or as stated above just dress them up.

Good luck,

Bear
