what would be the minimum filtration i could run efficiently in a 180 gal? what could be something i can use to get by? i want to get a idea, since i dont want anything too complex. for instance can i run a fluval fx5? and call it a day? :D

I am not familier with the fluval fx5, but it would probably do the job. I have found when using minimal amount of filtering that you will need to step up the maintainence a bit though. Alot will depend on your tank set up and stocking levels too.

I Would think the FX5 would work well. It works great on my 110 :D I'm sure it would do fine with anouther 70 gallons.

For most general aquaria needs it should suffice and do so nicely... But..... Being your at MFK...
It all depends on what you stock, i.e. overall bioload & how messy the fish are...
10lb Snakehead (Channa marulius)(FX5 = barely adequate IMO) vs 50 Corydoras melanistius (FX5 = overkill), just not comparable, know what I mean?
