could someone tell me if 2 aquaclear 110 and a rena fx3 is enough of filtration or should I save for fx5.I have 2 110 and a cascade 1000 want to replace cascade

how planted are you aiming for and whats you bioload looking like..

I have around 15 plants maybe some more.I would say a heavy bioload around 50 fish mostly all small except for ghost knife and 3 sharks, elephant nose and 2 catfish

sounds cool

It matters what your goals are for the filtration system.

type1---Some people use there filtration systems only as a bio filter. Meaning that it is not important to them for all of the debris to be picked up by the filter. They use weekly vac's of the bottom to pick that stuff up. There main concern is that the filtration system can house a large enough population of bacteria to support there bio load.

Type 2---Then you have the people that use there filtration as a means of removing all or most of the debris and will allmost never do any vacuuming to the bottom of the tank. And they know that a filtration system this abundant could house a bio filter that could handle a bio load that is 10 times more than the tank will ever see. I myself am this style.

If you are type 1 then you have more than enough. And could probably do that on just one ac110.

To be a Type 2 you will need a turn over rate that is more than 15x turn over rate. To get that job done. And on 1 part of your system you will need some sort of micron filtration to catch particles that the regular filters will not catch. So if you consider your self more like type 2 then get the fx5 or 2.

type 2 is what i would say. what do you think is better fx5 or eheim 2262 or 2080

Last time i checked you could by 2 fx5's for the price of one 2262. So if you went the canister route then do that.

Or you can spend the price of 1 fx5 and build a sump filter that will out perform all 3 of those canisters put together. Once you set your mind to building a sump its easy. And after you get it running you will never look at another canister filter for the rest of your life. I promise.:)
