I should be picking my new 180 gal (6x2x2) this weekend and will be moving my current stock from my 90 into it, my Senegal Bichir, Oscar and 2 green Severums. Any ideas on further stocking? A few fish I really like are flagtail prochilodus, types of earth eaters, bala sharks, lima shovelnose, types of plecos, knife fish, ornate bichir.. I know I couldn't add all of these but could someone give me an idea what would work with my current stock? Oscar is only around 4" atm if that makes any difference.

I'd stay away from the bala sharks. Your tank's not really big enough. I have them in my 8 footer and they swim the length with one flick of the tail when they want to. Mine are only about half size too. They really need a lot of room. I can't add much about the others in your list because I've never kept them. Good luck though. It's a great size tank you're getting. Maybe consider another oscar?

Ornate bichir will grow too big and so will a clown knife. Flagtail a few loaches and a ghost knife would be fine. I've found flags an loaches to be an awesome little cleanup crew.

I'm in the UK Grishtargan. Looking for a bit of variety so not really keen on another oscar.. Amazing that Balas are sold for tiny 2 foot aquariums when even a 6 foot can be cramped! Would really like to keep a shovelnose if possible.. Clown loaches are nice but seem to grow really slowly from what i've read and decent sized specimens cost a fair bit! So the flagtail would work? That's great! Thanks for the help so far guys :)

Well looks like my stock list is out the window.. Was supposed to be trading my 90g for a 180g but I have just been to the guys house and the tank is actually only 5x2x19 so about 125g.. Still bigger than mine but my tank and stand are in perfect condition, his tank is perfect but his stand looks a bit grubby.. Not sure whether to bother trading now!
